John Wong Yok Hon

John Wong Yok Hon graduated from University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 1991 with LLB. Honours (Upper Class). He had then secured his Certificate of Legal Practice in 1993 and completed his pupillage under the guidance of Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi, whom prior to his ascension to the position of Chief Justice of Malaysia was then a senior partner in the firm of Messrs Rashid & Lee.
 
John then joined the firm Messrs Choong Yik Son & Fiona Ghaus for a short stint before moving to the firm of Messrs Azim, Tunku Farik & Wong on 6 June 1994. He subsequently became a partner in Messrs. Azim, Tunku Farik & Wong from 1 January 2002 until 31 May 2016 prior to joining Messrs Shui-Tai.
He has been actively involved in the practice of commercial and civil litigation since his admission as an advocate and solicitor to the Malaysian Bar in 1994 and has vast experience in many fields including banking, insurance and corporate.

He had secured his Certificate of Legal Practice in 1993 and completed his pupillage under the guidance of Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi, whom prior to his ascension to the position of Chief Justice of Malaysia was then a senior partner in the firm of Messrs Rashid & Lee.

John’s experience includes:-                  
 

  • managing and conducting recovery actions for various financial institutions in respect of commercial as well as retail loans (conventional as well as islamic), defending financial institutions against suits initiated by customers, advising on Bank Negara Malaysia Guidelines, banking related, land related, hire purchase related and contract related laws of Malaysia;
     
  • managing and conducting litigation for various insurance companies, especially in the area of life insurance, advising on Bank Negara Malaysia Guidelines and insurance related laws of Malaysia, assisting, advising and taking part in the management of large scale agency fraud faced by insurance companies;
     
  • managing and conducting recovery actions for various member companies of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange as well as member companies of the Singapore Stock Exchange;
     
  • advising and conducting litigation in respect of shareholder disputes, breach of directors’ duties and other company related disputes;
     
  • advising and conducting litigation in respect of matrimonial and estate matters;
     
  • advising and conducting litigation in respect of land matters;
     
  • advising and conducting litigation in respect of claims in tort, in particular, libel and slander, interference with businesses and assault.
