Martin Cho Cheng Yu

Martin Cho Cheng Yu graduated with LLB (Honours) from University of London (External) in 2011 and completed his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in the following year. Martin commenced his pupillage in Messrs Lee, Oliver & Gan and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of High Court of Malaya on 11th October 2013.
 
Martin then joined Messrs Azim Tunku Farik & Wong as a Legal Associate from October 2013 to August 2017. In the meantime, he further pursued his studies and obtained the degree in Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Sunderland in April 2017. He ceased practice for a short stint to join Toyota Capital Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a Japanese multinational company as a legal advisor. He rejoined Messrs Azim Tunku Farik & Wong as a Senior Legal Associate in July 2018 to head the banking litigation team. Martin was subsequently became a partner in Messrs Azim Tunku Farik & Wong from 1st January 2020 until 31st July 2020 prior to joining Messrs Shui Tai.

Martin is actively involved in civil litigation since his admission as an Advocate & Solicitor of High Court of Malaya in 2013. Martin’s experience includes:-
 

  • handling banking litigation (suing and defending) for several financial institutions in relation to various types of financial facilities, including but not limited to, hire purchase, AITAB hire purchase, leasing, personal financing, credit card, mortgage, housing loan, business financing, SME financing, and many more.
     
  • handling insurance litigation (suing and defending) for several insurance companies and/or Takaful operator in relation to various types of insurance and/or Takaful policies, including but not limited to, life policy, medical policy, professional indemnity policy, and many more.
     
  • handling general litigation (suing and defending) for companies and/or individuals in areas such as corporate disputes, shareholders disputes, land acquisition disputes, sales of goods, defamation, divorce proceedings, probate and administration, employment disputes / industrial court litigation, et cetera.
     
  • drafting, reviewing and advising on corporate commercial contracts such as financing agreements, leasing agreements, tenancy agreements, services agreements, employment documents, et cetera.
